How does Stevenson present good and evil in “Jekyll and Hyde”? Essay

The peculiar case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a tale of communication channel between replete(p) and sin. Mr Hydes door is depict as compriseence blistered and disdained. The in tierant presents the door as a personified form of Mr Hyde, Blistered can dream up burn down burnt is vitiate disfigured is mutated. Trampled sedately over the pincers proboscis suggests to us the contributor that this man is evil as why does he retributory trample over a small frys body. The adverb sedately implies that his moves were not consider but mobile as if his actions came of course to him, almost as if he walks over children regularly. Whereas the word trampled implies that Mr Hyde is not all there, as if he is uplift with drug physical exerti on or prodigal alcohol consumption. Also trampling may suggest that a state of solicitude has arisen in Mr Hydes mind to get home without creation recognized or arrested due to his fluctuation of Jekyll. what is more Mr Hyde is draw as world indescribable he gave an impression of dishonor without any namable miscreation suggests that Mr Hyde possesses an aura of evil but shows know deformation from ruler pitying form. This implies that no one knows how to describe Mr Hyde yet he is not transmit and indeed suggesting his elegant evil. No one has ever seen pure evil they have only matte up or seen examples of what it can do as well evil has never taken humanity form before.Whereas Dr. Jekyll is described as, a well-made, whiskerless man of cubic decimetre with e real sic of capacity and sympathy. The word benignancy suggests that he was a generous, devout man. Furthermore from these two examples you can see that Stevenson implies that Hyde represents evil and J ekyll represents good done the impudent. In accession the Victorians retrieved in mug which was where they thought that the way you looked linked with your personality. This relates to what I have already mentioned about the appearances of Jekyll and Hyde- Hyde macrocosm evil as he was ugly and Jekyll world good as he was an attractive man. In the Victorian clock everyone would have believed this as they were all very superstitious due to there being no scientific proof to solicit against some of the mislead teachings of the church.Fourthly Stevenson presents good and evil through referring to the teachings of the bible due to the press of good and evil, and duty and temptation in the human soul a story as middle-aged as genesis. Jekyll says that the terms of this weigh are as old and common land place as man. This reason refers to the eternal attempt of all forms of good and evil.Common place suggests that us the commentator has handsome modify to evil ceaseless ly accompanying good. Furthermore as oldas man is referring to the struggle of good and evil which cristal and Eve encountered with the temptation to eat the issue off the proscribe tree. Due to this Stevenson created a philosophical theory that without human perturbation there would be no emotion as only good would exist and as Stevenson has demonstrate throughout the novel good gear exist without evil. This is consequently suggesting that universe is the evil in the world which is why Stevenson portrays Hyde as being emulator like suggesting that if human had not evolved from apes the phylogeny of evil would not have happened, fifthly Stevenson portrays good and evil through phylogeny. Jekyll is shown as conceiving Hyde as his swallow element Hyde is really perceived as being set down on the development scale by the author. Utterson found Hyde two dwarfish and troglodytic. little and troglodytic are both associated with cave dwellers and through the course of evolu tion we have lived in caves til now that was some ten k years agone thus suggesting of his un-evolved constitution. Whilst other remarks describe Hyde as being ape-like it is with no doubt because that Hyde is suppose to not have evolved full therefore suggesting that Hyde is immortal. Therefore if Hyde is shown as being immortal then the author is implying that evil is indestructible whilst good exists. Finally Stevenson presents good and evil through the use of mournful facility in the live on. When Hyde is nigh Stevenson uses at night under the face of the dazed city slug to increase the tenseness of Hydes appearance. The word dazed suggests that its blurred and eerie. Eerie usually been associated with spookiness/horror so therefore the front line of horror is created by the appearance of Hyde. This event of weather is a pun on Hydes ready due to you being able to dissemble in softness. Alternatively the weather seems to be nice and pleasant when Jekylls around. It was a fine, teetotal night the lamps undaunted by the nose. The word resolute may suggest how tranquillize the weather is, comparing to Jekyll as he is also a calm, gentle person. However towards the end of the novel anti-pathetic facility occurs as the weather is good yet Hyde appears. I sat in the sun I was once more Edward Hyde . Moreover you would esteem this would occur all through the novel, however near the end anti-pathetic fallacy is utilise as when Jekyll is around the weather is also bad. This may speculate on the personalities as Jekyll is starting to be overcome by the evil of Hyde and so in bow is becoming evil. This makes the endorser confused and not sure what to call back with this unexpected change however that is how Stevenson has presented some of the different forms of good and evil throughout the novel. In destination Robert Louis Stevenson presents good and evil as being partners, partners that should never be separated over wise the cause could be disastrous. Therefore Stevenson has shown us the referee that evil essential co-exist if not to cause self-destruction. Furthermore he presented Jekyll as being addicted to Hydes evil and the more he tried to fight his addiction to throw out he sank into its steep power. Also Stevenson shows us that for the world to last good has to be forever locked in conflict. However Stevenson also presents good and evil through the perception of doors and how the shackles of society which many people petition are so easy to come by as to loose. We have grown up to believe that good eer triumphs over evil yet if that is so eventually one day nature will sequester over man kind, as Stevenson proves that mankind is the route of all evil and therefore it is us that has to co-exist with nature.

Vinke Air Freight Service Company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Vinke Air Freight Service Company - Essay ExampleA brief market analysis pass on inform the company of the comfort of its services to current clients and how these factors might differ from the customer base within the nightlong small package delivery market. Vinke currently serves oversized- and mid-sized companies who occasionally need to enter parts to meet emergency needs. The present client base certainly must value the fact that their large packages can be delivered to an airdrome and Vinke will transport the parts as well as arrange final delivery. In an emergency, industrial delivery scenario, Vinkes personal attention to clients is a major(ip) benefit. In the overnight letter and small package market, however, customers argon not seeking the specialized attention that has built the companys current market. They are more interested in having their letters picked up at their location and timely delivered to the intended destination. Neither are they faced with the issues of industrial shipping. These customers are consumers for whom overnight delivery has become ubiquitous. They dont need specialized personal care nor are they constrained by the logistics involved in moving large manufacturing parts to meet emergency timeframes they simply want their letters to be picked up and delivered on time.In considering the organizational changes required by the proposed entry into the fresh market, and the competition already in place there, the task could prove daunting. Vinkes current client base is industrial or manufacturing companies. These organizations can be serviced from the airport to destination. For overnight letters and small packages, the company will not be able to expect its customers to drive to their airport Vinke will need to implement a pick-up service. They wont be competing for a relatively small pool of clients they will be forced to serve the general public. This will require grotesque organizational changes. Further, rather than th e occasional and urgent nature ofdelivering large industrial parts that easily fill up planes with just a few orders, the bleak market demands will centre upon frequent handling of routine letters and small packages.

Power Dynamics Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Power Dynamics - Term Paper ExamplePower in breast feeding is also related to oversight roles and the management of the periodical running of nursing activities (Daly, Speedy and Jackson, 2003). A nurse manager can adopt a leadership or management technique that involves issuing incentives to employees do exceptionally well in the activities. agree to Daly, Speedy and Jackson (2003), this is referred to as reward power. In addition, the nursing manager can also cancel or do away with these additional incentives when the employees perform poorly in their duties. This is described as coercive power (Daly, Speedy and Jackson, 2003). A situation where good capital punishment is rewarded and poor performance fined is an illustration of two types of power being used simultaneously. It is worth noting that gender has an influence in how power is used in nursing. According to McMurry (2011), nursing is considered a feminine vocation or line of work. However, there are some men who have in the past pursued nursing as a career contrary to this conventional viewpoint. In some health institutions, male nurses have not been allowed to participate in caring activities involving womanly patients. McMurry (2011) additionally posits that In some facilities, policies actually barred men from certain jobs such as in birthing and womens surgery units, especially in clubby catholic hospitals (p. 24). Subsequently, women working in vocations subjugated by men experienced similar prejudice and unfairness.Other factors that creates power imbalances in nursing include lam or ethnicity, level of education, economic status, and also physical disabilities. Global Reporting Initiative and Sustainable Reporting - Essay ExampleThe increase in regulatory scrutiny, the emergence of new standards and the heightened interest on the part of public and private policymakers are the reasons why sustainability compositioning becomes imperative for organizations today. To demonstrate this, this paper lead explore one of the most widely recognized sustainability standards, the Global Reporting Initiative. Reporting Standard The Global Reporting Initiative was established in the stratum 1997 and sponsored by the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) was formed for the purpose of outlining a set of guidelines that would deal with the economic, environmental and social consequences of organisational activity (Brown, 2005, p.90). Because of this objective, the initiative is often called as sustainability reporting. Its declared mission is to create conditions for the transparent and reliable exchang e of sustainability information through the development and continuous advance of its Sustainability Reporting Framework (GRI 2007). ... ainability Reporting Guidelines mandates that a sustainability report should provide a balanced and reasonable representation of the sustainability performance of a reporting organization (SRG, p.3). The logical implication of this initiative for companies rests on the determination of the sustainability performance. By defining, outlining and documenting the economic, environmental, social and governance areas for specific economic activities, an organization through the report, could identify its achievements in the context of its sustainability objectives. It is able to come apart benefit from the impact of its sustainability performance because the report contains correct and legitimate feedback. The benefits of a transparent organization, which will be explored further later on, is particularly maximized. This is the reason why companies re lease sustainability reports. In the International Survey of Corporate Responsibility Reporting in 2008, for instance, it was found that almost 80 percent of the companies in the Global 250 issued sustainability report (White, p.47). The same report cited numerous other reasons. They include ethics, economic considerations, brand reputation, innovation and learning (p.47). These variables reflect the changing dynamics of doing business today as stakeholder relationships changed. It appears that profit, which traditionally govern such relationship, is no longer the sole concern especially on the part of investors or that profit is no longer but driven by purely economic activities. The case of AstraZeneca is an excellent example of how sustainability reporting could achieve a valid and acceptable sustainable reporting. The company has interconnected environmental and social aspects into its existing accounting and reporting

Thus intention the fundamental hypothesis of this assumption is that a persons motive is the most important forecaster and influencer of attitude. In the event that a person wishes to partake on something then they will definitely do it. Ajzen & Fishbein, (1981). The theory of Reasoned Action implies that motives are influenced by Attitude toward the behavior and the subjective Norms. The mindset toward the behavior is exactly what the persons former attitude toward doing that behavior is. The implicit is that people think by their decisions and possible outcomes which guide them through the making of a decision. There is an attitude create about the overall decision and the object that which the decision is being made around. Is Advertising a Barrier to Male Movement toward Gender Change Coursework

Is Advertising a Barrier to Male Movement toward Gender Change - Coursework modelingRecently, while watching a TV daily, I have come across an advertisement that details about a burden. Specifications, detailing that a perfume is for female or male has become quite prominent in the context of promoting the brand. The advertisement was appealing for men as usual so ample as women are used as props for developing the quality of the advertisement. The advertisement, as I presume to be prompting men to use a particular product and restricting the women to conduct the same. The advertisement clearly captioned that the particular perfume that was being introduced in the market was solely meant for men and not for women (Bettany, Dobscha, OMalley and Prothero 3-5).It is often noted that people are more interested in the trunk languages of other people, as it prompts them to decide about the probable mode of proceeding or the needs of justification for an action they want to continue. B ody languages even help in depicting the level of participation that is reflected through the movement of body parts as well as postures for standing and sitting. Furthermore, non-verbal communication is often assisted by the use of body postures that play an important role in developing various interpretations about the communicator. Additionally, the perceptions of people about another individual often get developed based on their respective body languages. even off in the 21st century, when people comment on providing equal rights for both men and women, women still fail to obtain equal standards to that of men depending on the patriarchate system that is apparently evident at the various social levels. Specifically, gender discriminations are not apparent within the social standards but are in some manner still in practices. To be mentioned, the age-old dogmatic social system has been playing a crucial role in framing the mental state of matter of society to have separate perc eptions for men and women based on their gender roles.

Marketing case analysis - Essay ExampleAccepting Sears proposal means that Goodyear would have to change its dissemination policy. There can be certain changes such as including their own Goodyear seller that would carry this note exclusively. The reason for doing this is that Goodyear would have their own channel by means of which it can sell more and more to its guests. The customers would not have to go anywhere else for buying Goodyears tires because Goodyear would have its stores made available everywhere inside the customers reach. Also, it is said that channel of distribution must be selected carefully so that it is within access of most possible customers and provides a number of prospects (Linton, n.d.) . But there are some limitations as well. Firstly, the dealers might influence the customers to buy other brands because there are very few dealers who have the full knowledge of tires. Secondly, brand loyalty and tires have high tendency of being elastic in demand. One day, customer might want Goodyear but the other day the customer could decide to go for Sears or any other brand. Thirdly, product cannibalization might appear between Sears and the franchised dealers. Moreover, continuing sales to Sears would also trigger another tinge that whether to sell the Eagle brand only or sell some other specific products as well. The other solution is to reject the proposal and bind the status quo. This can cause a lot of problems. Already, Goodyear is facing decline in the current market position and loss of market share by 3.2%. There is high competition and Goodyear has no strong market share outside the American continent. The cut throat competition in both damage and quality might cause greater problems for Goodyear. The conclusion lies with the decision of accepting the Sears proposal. By employing this action, there would be an increase in the distribution channel take to an increment in the revenues for Goodyear. This would prove

My Leadership Style Essay Example for Free

My Leadership Style EssayAbstractLeadership is defined as a social influence process in which an case-by-case seeks the affaire of subordinates in an effort to research organizational goals. (Kinicki-Kreitner (p.346). My personal drawing cardship style is based on the blank spaceal theory of leadership. Based on the type of situation my qualification to adapt my leadership style is what makes me an effective manager. My Leadership StyleLeadership is defined as a social influence process in which an individual seeks the participation of subordinates in an effort to research organizational goals. (Kinicki-Kreitner p.346) Being a leader in today environment is even challenging than ever. This is due to the public press for increased transp atomic number 18ncy due to corporate greed, government pressure and individual corruption. There are great leaders throughout our history such as Martin Luther King, George Washington, and Jack Welsh. However, great leaders dont have to be go od. Barbara Kellerman notes that leaders are like the rest of us are trustworthy and deceitful, frightful and brave, greedy and generous. (Kinicki-Kreitner p.346)Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin are examples of great leaders that exercising their influence for their own personal gain. Kinicki-Kreitner states that to assume that all leaders are good is to be willfully blind (p.346). There are many different leadership styles and different leadership theories that individuals and corporations use. My personal leadership style is based on the Situational Theory. It is alike transactional and adaptive ruthate and feed. The situational theory of leadership is based on the effectiveness of a particular style of leader behavior depends on the situation. As the situation changes, so does the leadership style of the leader. As a retail manger managing 103 employees, my leadership styles changes on a daily basis. Things are always changing in this fast pace environment. Rules, regulations, per sonal challenges, customer issues, are some of the many challenges that my managers and I face on a daily basis. I relate actually well to Fiedlers situational model of leadership. His model is based on two factors. The first factor is that the degree which the situation gives the leaders control and influence is the likelihood the leader can successfully accomplish the job (Kinicki-Kreitner p.352). The second factor is based on how the leader is motivated. Is he or she motivated for accomplishment of the task or for close and personal relations? (Kinicki-Kreitner p.352)Based on these assumptions, my leadership style is based on build consanguinitys. I value building relationships with people. I guess that building structured relationships with my employees will give them bureau in me and my ability to lead them. Making hard decisions such as hours reduction was easier to communicate to my employees because of the relationship that I built with them. They were able to understand and accept that this was necessary for the greater good of keeping the store open and profitable. This leads me to believe that I have a high amount of situational control within my environment.Situational control refers to the amount of control and influence a leader has in his or her environment (Kinicki-Kreitner p.352) There are three dimensions of situational control. They are Leader member relations, task structure and position power. I relate to all three dimensions with leader-member relations being the highest. Due to the relationships that I have built within my organization, I have the support, loyalty and trust of my assistant managers and my hourly employees.Leaders in todays economic and semipolitical conditions must me servants and not dictators. Robert Greenleafs servant-leadership approach emphasizes increased service to others through a holistic approach.(Spears p.1) Larry Spears in Practicing Servant-Leadership states that the great leader is first experienced as a servant to others work, promoting a sense of community, and a the sharing of power in decision making (p.1) Being a servant-leader is a approach that I use within my organization.By holding daily huddles and having my employees state their opinion on any issues allows them to feel involved in the daily operation of running the store. Having an open heart is also an important aspect to my leadership ability. Ronald Heifetz and Marty Linsky in Leading with an Open Heart, states thatif we lose our capacity for innocence, curiosity, and compassion. Our innocence turns to cynicism, our curiosity turns into arrogance and our compassion turns into callousness. (p.2)Being a leader in my organization is very challenging. However, the situation theory allows me to adapt to each and every challenging situation on a daily basis. Managing with an open heart and being a servant leader will allow me to take on any challenges without becoming a dictator or being resentful in the decisions that I make. The ultimate key to my leadership style is building relationships. Building structured relationships allows loyalty, respect and confidence that I get from my employees knowing that I will lead them in any situation.ReferencesKinicki, A., Kreitner, R. (2009). Electronic gadgets and items EssayI have come to a point in conduct that some people have not. I have made a firm decision to recommit myself to pursuing my dreams. While there are those who retrieve that with an ounce of luck and a ton of persistence anything can be accomplished, I believe that there is no reason to expend so a lot energy and rely on luck. Life is simply too short and too precious to be left to luck al unitary. After serious investigating and reflection I am convinced my educational goals will be far better achieved at Cornell University. My passion for engineering began at a more advanced stage in my life.I remember how I fascinated I was by electronic gadgets and items when I was in high school. I employ to marvel at systems exhibiting complex movements, without an idea of the complexities involved. The broad range of motions they performed under vastly different conditions in contrast to the ease of control exhibited by the hustler amazed me. I k toni c this was all engineering, and I knew it interested me. My intuitive nature wanted me to explore more about this field even more. Soon, I effectuate myself attending lectures, seminars, counseling sessions and even searching for videos about engineering and other things about it.It was probably this that gave me my first thoughts about electrical and computer engineering I, however, could not fathom that my future was headed in this direction. As the world continues to progress and new innovations are introduced daily, the role that electrical and computer engineering grows as sanitary. Intelligence in systems is no longer a bleeding-edge technology hyped by its proponents and mistrusted by the mainstream. More and more areas of technology educationfrom life sciences to engineeringare embracing the tenets of the new technology, making it an increasingly mainstream concept.Scope of creativity and the trajectory of the growth Electrical and computer engineering has, influenced me t o build a broader knowledge base at undergraduate level on the subjects which I have al steerings enjoyed, from the high school levels physics and mathematics. This is the reason why I musical note, I stand a sizable chance of finding a match for my desire and natural talent in this field. It has been said, however, that desire and natural talent are nothing if they cannot be attach properly. In order to harness these talents, I firmly believe that taking my major at Cornell would be the best way to achieve this. One of the many wonderful concepts I have learned from my parents is to strive for academician excellence while balancing life with other activities and contrisolelyions. It is this fine balance that I feel will be provided if I am accepted in this major at the Cornell University. I strongly feel that in order to reach my replete potential I need to be in an environment that best caters to my interests and goals. I am convinced this University is a great fit for the law of learning. That is why I believe that this move is a crucial step for me. My success and my accomplishments here will herald the beginning of the fulfillment of my personal and professional goals. It is said that the one thing that nobody can ever take away from you is your education and that is the one thing that I plan to not only gain for myself but for others as well. I have learned from my parents the critical importance of the law of giving, and I am both attracted and committed to this model of community service, particularly that students obtain skills to effect social change. Though I got perfect grades, my natural Instinct is what I value the most. Looking at Cornells school of electrical and computer engineering, I sense that my interests and talents will be best realized and developed throughout the way. a good teache r is someone whos really gone out of the way to engage a student it is comments and reviews like such from Cornells prestigious alumni which makes me believe that everyone in such a learning environment would care so more about growth of a student. This is my reason for pursuing this opportunity to become part of the rich academic environment that Cornell University has to offer. As the world continues to change and the employment becomes more and more challenging and competitive, it becomes imperative for anyone looking for a successful career to not only have the drive to succeed but in addition the training and expertise to do so. I am not saying that I do not have the training and expertise at the secondment but I do believe that there is still room for more. The world is fast becoming a borderless place. Cultures, races, beliefs and ideologies are blend together and move because of the growing advances in communications. In order to succeed in this world, one needs to be a ble to adapt to the various cultural differences as well as be able to maintain a certain sense of individual identity. My former school did not have the same diversity that I see environment where cultural diversity is promoted. This is why I believe that this educational environment is the perfect place for me. Not only does this University exceed my expectations but it is also enjoys a global reputation. While I personally believe that there is no such thing as a free eat and that everything a person has in life must come from hard work and perseverance, I also believe in charity.I believe in helping others who do not have much in life. I believe in helping people regardless of their nation, race or creed. I believe in being a better person so I can best help myself and others around me. I believe that this academic environment is the best place for me to turn these beliefs into realities.
